The Target Mother’s Day Spectacular
Which you are probably reading a month later
Since I’ve decided to put out this newsletter/blog/whatever/thing on a 2x/month-ish schedule for now, my posts are going to be OLD by the time you read them.
But that’s OK, right? You love it, right?
As I write this, it’s Mother’s Day, 2023.
I hate this “““holiday.”””
I’m glad you love it. I hate it. For SO many reasons.
And all I wanted today was to have some alonetime.
In Target.
As I’ve noted, I don’t drive (for now) and also we are a one-car family, making it tricky for me to go out alone with a car anyway. So I don’t a) shop alone very often nor b) get to Target very often. It’s not even that far away, it’s just kind of a pain to get to (see: Trader Joe’s) (although I should note that I have personally driven a car there all by my own self in the past so it could happen again - did I cry in the parking lot? sure, but I know I can do it).
So I am writing this after one glorious hour ALONE in Target on the same day as Tabitha Brown’s fourth and final collection dropped. I love Tabitha SO MUCH. I am powerless to resist the things she puts out in the world, I swear. I’ve bought at least one small thing from every other drop (a skirt I love, notebooks, various glasses, bowls, shopping bags…..). This one wasn’t as exciting to me - it’s mostly stuff for pools and outdoor entertaining - but her aesthetic is adorable and….I bought things.
Big bowl for snacks. Tall and short glasses (acrylic so I can use ‘em outside and maybe not shatter them) and an insulated “wine” glass that I’ll use for other drinks.
Small and large plates and two cute decks of cards.
I only got one set of everything because it’s FOR ME but also I don’t think there will be as much of a run on this collection as some in the past so I feel comfortable saying if I want more glasses or plates, I can get them. (The small plates and the glasses were just $3-$4 each.)
Before I went in, I asked my family if anyone NEEDED anything and a certain child of mine asked for “cookies” - I said big ones or small ones? She said big - she meant bakery-style cookies rather than shelf-stable ones. So I got her these.
Target, stahp. Brownie chocolate chip cookies….
Finally, you should know I’m a huge fan of unsweetened fizzy water/seltzer. And my favorite brand is Polar and of that my favorite thing is their limited edition seasonal flavors.
Alas, my source - Boxed dot com - went belly up. Stores in the south do NOT stock the limited flavors, and buying them from Amazon - or asking someone to buy them for me - is ridiculously expensive. However, TARGET HAS UPPED ITS SELTZER FLAVOR GAME. It’s no Wegmans (the second-best flavor selection I’ve seen) but will probably scratch the itch:
The top one is caffeinated! Cherry cola, Strawberry mango, Watermelon lime, Coconut pineapple.
I could’ve gotten even more but I started here.
And then there are limited edition summer flavors - I knew about them ahead of time and made sure to seek them out in the store (they’re in the summer section not the seltzer section). I mean, I had to, right?
Rainbow sherbert and Cherry cream seltzer!
And here’s something I considered but did NOT buy but may buy eventually:
INCLUSIVE TAROT
But I DID buy this, which just continues my long-standing history of buying my favorite purses in the children’s section of a store. (If you’ve known me long enough, you may remember my beloved little H&M plastic purse that I carried around until it quite literally fell apart.)
In-store action shot of UNICORN PURSE WITH POMPOMS
And then I bought boring things - Thomas Bagel Thins (peeking out in the above photo - Everything, please) and salsa (pineapple/peach) and rice cakes (CHOCOLATE, OK?) - that are either only at Target or simply a better price there.
I’ll probably forever kick myself for not also getting the fanny pack/belt bag from the Pride collection because a) it really is adorable and b) if I’d bought it, I would’ve spent enough to get $20 back from Target Circle - which would’ve made it free. ARGH! I just didn’t math the math.
But I did have a $5 coupon that came in the mail, so that helped. Plus I have a (debit) Red Card so I get 5% off everything, which is nice.
Do you like to wander around Target, too? Tell me! (Don’t tell if you don’t, haha.)
