HMart on Easter 2023
A quick skip through one of my favorite stores
I don’t get to HMart as often as I’d like, but I typically go on Christmas and Easter because those are days when it’s pretty chill AND I have the day off. I’m writing this on Easter and I am writing this because I just got back from Super HMart (in Doraville, GA).
What I usually buy at HMart (things I either can’t get anywhere else or CAN but only in a few other places):
King Oyster Mushrooms (Note: BuHiFM - I’ll get to that in a future post - has them loose and for a better price, but I go there EVEN less often.)
Other fresh fruits/veggies/mushrooms - Their selection is wide and gorgeous and priced well
Nature’s Soy products - they don’t always have everything but they usually have most things, including mock beef (didn’t today!) and mock chicken (did!), soy puffs, baked tofu, tofu skin (not today), tofu snacks (didn’t buy today), etc. Weee used to sell them online but that’s really hit or miss and also they’ve changed their business so I don’t really order from them anymore
Daikon - fresh AND pickled - Yeah, BuHi has this too. I bought wasabi-flavored pickled daikon this time around and also bought fresh even though I sort of have a teeny tiny bad habit of buying daikon and forgetting about it and having to toss it because it’s gone bad. MAYBE THIS TIME I WILL DO BETTER.
Ramen, rice, and noodles - the best selection IMHO. I got two ramen cups (Soon vegan, Soon vegan kimchi), some Samurai noodles (cheaper than the Ocean’s Halo organic ramen - not at all the same but works just as well in my quick noodley lunches), and a big bag of sushi rice. Not a HUUUUGE bag (no room for that) but ya know, a good sized bag. (I like to make sushi rice in the Instant Pot and then make fresh veggie sushi and make-to-freeze onigiri.)
Seaweed - Nori snacks (bought today) and nori sheets (already stocked up because LIDL of all places had some). Also fresh seaweed salad that I skipped today because it felt a bit pricey.
Rice paper - I can get this in a few places (INCLUDING PUBLIX, WHAT?) but Hmart has good options at good prices. I make spring/summer rolls alllllll the time.
Of course then there’s always the surprises. The things that just, oopsie, jump into my cart.
I scored Samanco fishies (taiyaki) with BROWN SUGAR BOBA ice cream filling - can’t eat these until after Passover, but they are limited edition - I usually get red bean - and I HAD TO!
Samanco Brown Sugar Boba Frozen Dessert Sandwich aka FISHIES aka taiyaki
This premade milk tea in a cup in the fridge was on sale for $1, so I am going to try it.
Fresh Tea Latte - I might toss some boba in here
And Pocky was marked down to $2 for a HUGE package (I got 3).
So much POCKY
I did NOT buy the churro turtle chips in the GIANT box but that also looked like a good price - and I forgot to look for honey butter chips this time.
Overall this was a REALLY quick trip - no lingering in aisles, mostly sticking to my list - but each time I go I wish I could go WAY more often.
In other news….
